Apart from sending seeds to Haiti, the New Forests Project has increased direct financial support to organizations working on reforestation/agroforestry and sustainable agriculture in Haiti. The New Forests Project’s Haiti country program was initiated in 2009, and in 2010 the New Forests Project raised funds to implement its first larger project in the country that will establish tree nurseries, reforest the shores of a lake and provide alternative sources of income to discourage cutting down trees planted for environmental purposes.
